CLASS & PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project was an assignment for our Senior Capstone class and was a way for us to take all the concepts we have learned over the 4 years we spent studying film at High Point University and put them to use and prove we understood how to both create a final product and how to properly conduct ourselves on a film set.

“The Popular Culture and Media Production Capstone is a six- credit hour course sequence. Using industry standard methods, students work in teams to produce original narrative short films. Their productions produced over a comprehensive, two-semester-long capstone class are also informed by critical and cultural analyses into the short film’s genre and message. Within their teams, students carry out roles as producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, etc.

During the fall semester (POP4900), students examine the great ideas and understandings they have developed through their popular culture and critical studies classes and use these to inform the storytelling of the films they will produce. They also pitch story concepts, form production teams and complete all the writing and pre-production tasks for each of their projects. POP4900 is not an on-lime option.

In the spring semester (POP4950), student teams complete the production and post- production tasks of their capstone films utilizing industry standard methods. Completed films are showcased at an end of semester red carpet event organized by the students.”
